Green Grants 2024
The Green Scythe Fair committee is delighted to announce the award of a total of £4000 to 12 local green initiatives that met its Green Grants Criteria in the 2024 funding round.
These initiatives all demonstrated that they are 'making a positive difference in their communities, raising environmental awareness, promoting sustainable projects and green crafts and/or reviving the rural skill of scything'. Our funding will help, among others: Willow Preparation and Basketmaking, Handloom Weaving, Community Gardens, Community Cinema, Public Wildlife and Climate Action Display, Scything Equipment and Workshops. Find details of all the successful projects here.

This year’s Fair takes place at Thorney Lakes on the weekend of the 7th and 8th June. Saturday 7th is given over to bookable courses and workshops and Sunday 8th June is for the general public, doors open at 11 am. Go to www.greenfair.org.uk for details of the Saturday workshops and courses, and for buying Sunday tickets.

The website also provides details of the free buses we have organised for the Sunday. Four routes cover all main towns, villages and train stations to north, south, east and west, arriving by midday and leaving from 5pm. To encourage usage, the return fare is inclusive in the normal ticket price £15 per person (children under 14 come free), but MUST be booked online.
Looking for volunteer stewards
We are still looking for volunteer stewards to help the Fair run smoothly and efficiently. If you would like to steward at the Fair, please contact gsfstewards@gmail.com. Two hours volunteering gets you free entry and a free drink, four hours volunteering also gets you a free meal in addition.

Green Scythe Fair Grants now OPEN!

Each year the volunteer committee that organises the Green Scythe Fair allocates grants to local green initiatives from the surplus income of the previous year’s Fair. We are delighted to announce that the 2025 Grant Applications are OPEN. See www.greenfair.org.uk/grants for info on how to apply, but be quick applications close March 31st.

This year’s Green Scythe Fair will once again be held at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Park on the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June. Saturday sees a full programme of workshops to learn a new skill including scything, crafts and sustainable living courses. On Sunday is the Fair itself, incorporating the West Country Scything Championships alongside an array of stalls and activities, including live music, performance, green information and workshops, campaigns, a Green Kidz area, the Community Tent with storytelling, and three bars selling local beers, ciders and apple juice, plus the Green Info Café and a variety local food and drinks stalls.
Full details of courses, event information and online workshops and ticket booking will be available from mid-March on www.greenfair.org.uk.
To help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts from the event we levy a small carbon tax on tickets to the Fair which is donated each year to Reimagining the Levels, to plant trees in local communities to help remove carbon from the event. There is a reduced entry fee for bus users and pedestrians to encourage lower emission transport to the event.

Come by Bus
We specially contract Vickery’s Coaches who provide low emission buses to bring Fairgoers from Castle Cary, Bridport, Wells and Taunton with pick-ups along the way (eg respectively at: Yeovil, Montecute, Martock; Beaminster, Crewkerne; Glastonbury, Street, Somerton; Curry Rivel, Langport). A timetable will be posted on the Green Scythe Fair website in mid-March when tickets can be purchased.
