A Summary of the Green Scythe Fair Tree and Hedge Planting Grant
2022-23 Season
Reimagining the Levels, on behalf of the Green Scythe Fair, enabled the planting of 3 schemes which were:
1. Orchard Farm, Knole, Langport, TA10 9HY: 70 metres of mixed native hedgerow and 50 woodland trees and shrubs. See pdf attachment for more information.
2. Wilder Woods, Drayton Woods Forest School: 17 metres of mixed native hedgerow and 20 woodland trees and shrubs. See pdf attachment for more information.
3. Cider Apple Trees Nursery, Sparkford Ecological Cooperative, Sparkford Hill Lane, Sparkford BA22 7HY : 85 trees and shrubs were planted around the boundary of their land to increase the bio-diversity, create wildlife habitat and shelter.
Total of 85 metres hedgerow and 105 woodland trees & shrubs
2023-24 Season
Reimagining the Levels, on behalf of the Green Scythe Fair, enabled the planting of 8 schemes. Applications giving details of the plantings and photos of the completed plantings will be sent in separate emails. The plantings were:
1. Walnut Farm, Portmeade Drove, Moorland Street, Axbridge, BS26 2BA: 80 trees and 80 shrubs to create a shelter belt. Planted by the landowners.
2. Shride Farm, Othery, Bridgwater TA7 0QL: 150 metres of mixed native hedgerow and 8 hedgerow trees. This was planted with the help volunteers from Reimagining the levels.
3. Wyvern Fields Collective Sparkford Ecological Cooperative, Sparkford Hill Lane, Sparkford BA22 7HY: 20 metres of mixed native hedgerow and 8 hedgerow trees.
4. Old School Project, High St, Queen Camel BA22 7NH: 65 metres of mixed native hedgerow. Planted by learners from Able2achieve.
5. The Haven, Bagley BS28 4TG: 30 trees and 20 shrubs. Planted by local residents.
6. Rosewood Cottage, Bridgwater Road, near Axbridge BS25 1NP: 100 trees and 100 shrubs. Planted by the family and friends.
7. Philfare Lane, Rowberrow BS25 1QP: 50 metres of mixed native hedgerow with 12 hedgerow trees. Planted by the landowners
8. Yew Tree Farm Cottage, Shipham BS25 1QW: 108 metres of mixed native hedgerow and 10 hedgerow trees. Planted by the landowners.
Total of 508 metres hedgerow, 46 hedgerow trees and 410 woodland trees & shrubs
The plants are mostly native species to increase biodiversity for wildlife, however we have included some non natives to increase the species diversity and to see how these respond to climate change. These can be monitored in the future to help inform us about future tree planting policy in Somerset.
